Birds were the focus of our new educational workshop, organized on the occasion of World Migratory Bird Day with third- and fifth-grade students from the “Goce Delchev” Primary School in Resen. Our educators, Megi Dochovska and Dragana Pelikudovska-Traјchevska, together with ornithologist Slave Nakev, presented the fascinating and diverse world of birds, after which they and the students made bird feeders using everyday materials.

In this way, through interactive learning, young participants become acquainted with the biological role and importance of birds, while also developing ecological awareness, responsibility, and care for the environment. The practical activity of making feeders encourages their creativity and teamwork, at the same time setting an example of positive community engagement and inspiring active participation in nature conservation.
World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated every year on the second Saturday of May and October, with the aim of raising awareness about migratory birds and the need for their protection. These species face numerous challenges such as habitat loss, climate change, and illegal hunting, all of which seriously threaten their survival. This day reminds us that the protection of migratory birds is a global responsibility, as their routes cross many countries and depend on international efforts for nature conservation.

This workshop was carried out within the project “Prespa Green & Blue Initiative: Empowering Conservation through Research, Education and Communication” funded by the European Union under the programme “EU for Prespa” and co-funded by the Prespa-Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT). Project implementation partners are the Macedonian Ecological Society, the Municipality of Resen, Galichica National Park, the Society for the Protection of Prespa (SPP) from the Republic of Greece, and the Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) from the Republic of Albania. The implementation of project activities is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of North Macedonia and Pelister National Park.
