Presentation and roundtable on the topic “Wet Meadows in Prespa: Importance, Protection, and Management”

On June 19, 2025, we organized a presentation and roundtable discussion in Resen on the topic “Wet Meadows in Prespa: Importance, Protection, and Management.”

The event began with welcome addresses by the Executive Director of the Macedonian Ecological Society, MSc Robertina Brajanoska, and Ayman Al Malla, Head of the Environment Department at the Municipality of Resen.

This was followed by a short presentation by our colleague Lazar Nikolov, who showcased the sustainable wet meadow management activities in Prespa, implemented by MES in cooperation with the Municipality of Resen and the Ezerani Nature Park. The presentation served as an introduction to an open discussion involving representatives from MES, the Municipality of Resen, Ezerani Nature Park, Galichica National Park, Pelister National Park, UNDP, the Territorial Firefighting Unit Resen, local NGOs, livestock farmers, crop farmers, and other stakeholders.

The event was an excellent opportunity to present the achievements so far in the successful management of wet meadows in Prespa. Participants shared ideas and suggestions for further development and expansion of these activities, including applying this model to other habitats in the region, as well as promoting sustainable ecological practices across the Prespa region.

This activity is part of the project PrespaNET III – Conserving the Biodiversity of Transboundary Prespa, supported by the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT), the Aage V. Jensen Foundation, and EuroNatur.
