On the eve of World Environment Day – June 5, a public event was held in the schoolyard in the Prespa coastal village of Ezerani, where several environmental projects for Prespa from the “EU for Prespa” program were presented, including the new project of the Macedonian Ecological Society that will be implemented over the next four years.
The event was attended by the Head of the Delegation of the European Union, H.E. Ambassador Michalis Rokas, the UNDP Resident Representative, Armen Grigorian, the Mayor of the Municipality of Resen, Jovan Tozievski, and the Executive Director of the Macedonian Ecological Society, MA Robertina Brajanoska.
The project of the Macedonian Ecological Society (MES) was presented before the attendants by project coordinator Daniela Zaec from the Resen office of MES, who emphasized that only with continuous effort, joint action and active community involvement can we ensure long-term protection and sustainable management of the Prespa region for future generations.
The first activity envisaged by the project is aimed precisely at environmental education of the youngest, which was demonstrated at the specific event in the school in Ezerani. The project assistants and educators of MES, Megi Dochovska and Dragana Trajchevska, held an interactive workshop with the children present who took an active part in the board game “Prespa”, which was created for such purpose by the Macedonian Ecological Society. Also, the local population will have particular benefit from the implementation of the project through a series of measures that, according to the activity plan, should be implemented in the Nature Park “Ezerani”.
The project “Prespa Green & Blue Initiative: Empowering Conservation through Research, Education and Communication” is funded by the European Union and co-financed by the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT). In addition to the Macedonian Ecological Society, partners in the implementation of the project are the Municipality of Resen, the National Park “Galicica”, the Society for the Protection of Prespa from Greece (SPP) and Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA). The project will be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of North Macedonia and the National Park “Pelister”.
