Mammals and people in Prespa have lived alongside one another for centuries. Some species have become an integral part of our culture and surroundings, such as squirrels and hedgehogs, while others, like wildcats or roe deer, are far more elusive. Certain mammals may be hunted, whereas others are protected due to their rarity and ecological importance.
The complex relationship with large carnivores such as bears and wolves stems from occasional conflicts between humans and these animals; yet they can also be a source of fascination for nature enthusiasts and tourists who take pleasure in encountering the traces left by these species.
