Another Successfull Season of Wet Meadow Management in Prespa

We have successfully completed this year's mowing season across approximately 20 hectares of wet meadows in Prespa, carried out in cooperation with the Municipality of Resen and Ezerani Nature Park. This marks the seventh consecutive year of this important conservation activity, which contributes to the preservation of one of the most valuable habitats in the Prespa region.

To mark the occasion, we held a closing event together with our friends from the "Spirit of Prespa" farm, attended by representatives of the Macedonian Ecological Society, the Municipality of Resen, Ezerani Nature Park, Galichica National Park, UNDP, and members of the local community.

Lazar Nikolov, the coordinator of the activity, addressed the participants, reflecting on the development of wet meadow management over the past seven years and highlighting the ecological and ecosystem importance of these habitats. He emphasized that this initiative represents a successful example of an integrated approach to sustainable management, in which institutions, protected area authorities, and the local community work together to conserve nature, while the benefits are returned to both people and nature.

This year, approximately 120 tonnes of hay were produced. The hay will primarily be used by local livestock farmers and by Galichica National Park, where it will provide feed for the European deer reproductive center.

The sustainable management of Prespa's wet meadows is implemented within the framework of the project "PrespaNET III – Biodiversity Conservation in Transboundary Prespa", supported by the Prespa-Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT), the Aage V. Jensen Foundation, and EuroNatur.
